Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei has told Ahmadinejad to govern as if he had another term in office coming his way. This comes hard on the heels of a speech in which he obliquely but severely criticised Ahmadinejad for thinking he had a direct line to the Mahdi. Writing this from Jerusalem it is hard for people here to understand his mixed messages. But it was ever thus with Iran.

Confusing Times
