Cleric Sadr 'in Iran' ahead of crackdown

There is more news linking Iran to Iraq's troubles as The Guardian reports that Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr is said to have fled Iraq and sought shelter in Iran ahead of a US crackdown aimed at ending the violence in the country. Other papers on the other hand report on a 'softening' approach coming from within the US, as a general in the US military questioned claims that the Iranian government was sponsoring insurgent attacks on US soldiers in Iraq. (Times, FT) The Telegraph writes that the EU is 'pessimistic over Teheran's nuclear potential'.

The Telegraph in a comment piece looks at who, if anybody, might be set to benefit from a war with Iran and in an editorial enquires into the nuclear ramifications of North Korea's mitigating threat to the Middle East.
