Today, in his article "Who is Planning Our Next War for the campaigning website Antiwar.com,
Patrick Buchanan writes:
As George Bush reflects on his legacy, an urgent question must be pressing in upon him each day.
Will I leave here as the man who launched failed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that cost thousands of U.S. dead, to no avail? Or can I yet enter history as the Churchillian statesman who used U.S. power to save America and Israel from the mortal threat of atomic weapons in the hands of the Iranian mullahs?
Which legacy would Bush prefer? Or Cheney?
As Americans await Bush's address announcing a "surge" of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops to Iraq, we may be missing the larger picture. The War Party is turning its attention from Iraq – to Iran.
Nor is it simply an analysis of the character of George Bush that causes one to so conclude.
Tehran is now two weeks into a 60-day deadline to answer a Security Council resolution directing it to cease enriching uranium. While the sanctions are mild, the resolution passed unanimously and gives Bush the U.N. cover he used to wage war on Iraq. If Iran defies the United Nations, Bush will demand further sanctions. Up the escalator we go.

Interesting Mehreen.
But the reality, surely, is that the USA is too terrified of Iranian reaction in Iran to take out any nuclear facilities - and Israel is equally frightened after the summer war - Nobody's going to do anything.
Ridiculous. Surely we'll see more of this.
'israel's war must be sold as america's war' (not surprising) from Buchanan
Classic example of the new antisemitism.
And Ritter?? Give me a break. Dual loyalities, espionage... Boring Antisemite. It's a complicated world. The Jews are allowed to play it like everybody else. Get over it, Ritter...
Iran must not be allowed to develop the bomb. For the sake of US children as much as British, Ukrainian or Indian ones.
Israel though, has every right to take preventive measures, given that the Iranian's have spelt it out. And the US is the closest friend - not as a result of 'Jewish influence', but as a result of ideological fit. Surely Mehreen hates totalitarian murderers too?
Do we have to wait for them to build their empire before we defend ourselves?
Personally I don't dispute either Israel's or America's right to take out Iranian nuclear facilities. What I dispute is whether they have the will to do it - which I doubt given possible consequences. Though, curiously, Egypt's bald statement that if Iran gets the bomb it "will develop the bomb" MAY CONCENTRATE A FEW MINDS
